"How Did We Get Here” is the second song I wrote on this transformative journey.

 

The inspiration for this piece emerged from my observations of the overwhelming hatred and divisiveness that seems to permeate our world today. It is disheartening to acknowledge that this negativity is not a recent phenomenon; rather, it has been simmering beneath the surface for a long time, quietly festering, and growing in intensity. Now, under the right conditions—political unrest, social media amplifying discord, and a climate of fear—this ugliness has erupted into a cacophony of conflict and animosity. 

As I penned the lyrics, I found myself grappling with the complexities of human emotions and the societal structures that often pit us against one another. The song serves as a poignant reminder that we are all part of one human race, sharing this fragile planet as we orbit the Sun together. It is a call to introspection, urging listeners to consider how we arrived at this juncture in our collective history. This heartfelt piece is dedicated to that special someone who plays a crucial role in your life, serving as both a stabilizing influence and a source of freedom.

The first part of the title, "You're My Anchor," symbolizes the unwavering support and security that this person provides. In a world filled with uncertainties and challenges, having someone who can steady you during the storm is invaluable. This song captures those moments of vulnerability when you feel lost or overwhelmed, illustrating how this person helps you find your footing again.

I elected to release the single, "Beneath a Foreign Sky," which I penned on February 28, 2026, on Independence Day, 2026. This choice was not merely a matter of timing; it was a deliberate decision to intertwine the themes of my song with the profound historical significance of the day. By releasing the track on July 4th, I aimed to evoke a sense of reflection on the ideals of freedom and independence that this day represents, while simultaneously addressing the contemporary issues that challenge those very ideals.

Independence Day, also known as the 4th of July, is a day of great national pride and celebration in the United States. It marks the anniversary of the birth of American independence, commemorating the pivotal moment in 1776 when the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence. This landmark document articulated the colonies' desire to sever their political ties to Great Britain and King George III, asserting their right to self-governance and the pursuit of liberty. The day is celebrated with fireworks, parades, and gatherings, as citizens reflect on the sacrifices made by those who fought for the freedoms enjoyed today.

However, in the midst of this celebration, I found myself grappling with a deep sense of outrage and disillusionment as I witnessed the United States embark on yet another war—an unprovoked war with Iran. 

"A silent drumbeat in the distance calls

Another banner raised, another fall

The headlines roar, the fervor builds so high

But tell me, truly, why?"

These lyrics, inspired by the poem The Soldier" written by the English poet Rupert Brooke, capture the dissonance between the patriotic fervor often associated with military action and the sobering reality of its consequences.

As I prepare for the release of "Beneath a Foreign Sky," I hope it resonates with those who share my concerns about the direction our nation is taking. This song is not just a reflection of my personal outrage; it is a call to action for all who value peace and the ideals of independence that our nation was founded upon. It is a reminder that the spirit of Independence Day should inspire us to seek understanding and resolution rather than conflict, and to strive for a world where freedom is not just a privilege for some, but a universal right for all.

Learning to love yourself is probably the most significant task anyone of us can face in our lifetime.

In a world that often seems to prioritize external validation, we are constantly measuring ourselves against other people's standards, whether it be in terms of appearance, success, or social acceptance. This relentless comparison can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt, making it increasingly challenging to embrace our unique identities.

The path to self-acceptance was long and challenging for me, but I believe I have finally arrived at my destination. That path to self-love is always a deeply personal and transformative experience that requires patience and resilience.

This song, which I poured my heart and soul into, went through an arduous process of twelve rewrites before I finally reached a version that resonated with my true feelings. As a private individual, it's difficult for me to talk about these emotions, but I'm learning to convey them through my music.

I wanted "Love Yourself" to be an upbeat, energetic song that serves as a motivation for us all, inspiring listeners to embrace their individuality and celebrate their worth. The intention was to create a sound that radiates positivity and empowerment, steering clear of the somber tones often associated with themes of self-acceptance. It was crucial for me that the song did not come across as a depressing piece that further adds to the burden of not being able to be ourselves around others. Instead, I aimed to craft an anthem that encourages listeners to shed their fears and doubts, reminding them that self-love is not only achievable but also vital for a fulfilling life.

What Inspires Me

Here's to the lyricists and storytellers of our era, the artists who craft intricate tales through their melodies and verses. These creators have a remarkable talent for capturing the essence of human experience, transforming emotions and moments into songs that deeply resonate with listeners. This is why we remember those timeless songs: they are more than just catchy tunes; they are compelling stories that evoke feelings and memories, allowing us to connect with the themes and experiences they depict.

When we hear a song, it often feels as though the artist is sharing a part of their soul with us, inviting us into their world. The lyrics act as a bridge, connecting our personal experiences with the universal themes of love, loss, joy, and struggle. This trend has led to an increase in songs addressing subjects once considered taboo or controversial, as artists strive to push boundaries and capture attention in a saturated market.

When writing my lyrics, I aim to be a storyteller, drawing inspiration from lyricists whose songs have stayed relevant for 30 to 60 years. I aspire for my work to connect with my audience now and for many generations in the future.
